This set is specially designed to provide you with the essential colours used to paint MERDC schemes.

This set contains twelve high-quality acrylic paints specially designed for painting U.S. MERDC camouflage patterns.
Developed in the 1970s, the MERDC (Mobility Equipment Research & Development Center) introduced a standardized and highly adaptable camouflage system. It replaced the overall Olive Drab finish and was used from 1977 until the mid-1980s, when it was superseded by the three-colour NATO scheme.
It allowed crews to modify only one or two colours to adapt the vehicle to changing environments instead of repainting it entirely. The system used four-colour patterns selected from twelve Federal Standard tones, resulting in eight schemes optimized for specific climates. In each pattern, two colours covered approximately 45% of the surface each, while the remaining two covered about 5% each (typically Sand and Black):
Winter Verdant: Forest Green, Field Drab, Sand, and Black
Summer Verdant: Forest Green, Light Green, Sand, and Black
Tropical: Forest Green, Dark Green, Light Green, and Black
Snow, Temperate Open: White, Field Drab, Sand, and Black
Snow, Temperate with Trees: Forest Green, White, Sand, and Black
Grey Desert: Sand, Field Drab, Earth Yellow, and Black
Red Desert: Earth Red, Earth Yellow, Sand, and Black
Arctic White: White

Patterns could be applied by spray or brush, with either soft or hard edges. In practice, units frequently deviated from the official templates by adapting the patterns to local conditions and operational needs.
MERDC camouflage was applied to nearly all U.S. Army vehicles of the period-including M60 and some early M1 Abrams tanks, M113 APCs, Bradley prototypes, M109 SPGs, M151 trucks, M561 Gama Goat, M548 cargo carriers, and M88 recovery vehicles, among many others-MERDC remains one of the most iconic and versatile camouflage systems of the Cold War era. This set makes it easy to choose the correct colours for your models, helping you work faster with the best results.
ATOM paints have a water-based formula that provides all the advantages of lacquer and is optimized for maximum performance with both brush and airbrush. The combined features of this paint include self-levelling capability, fast drying time, and exceptional covering power which makes them unique to the market. Additionally, ATOM colours are extremely durable, allowing for the use of acrylics, lacquers, enamels, or more aggressive products such as decal solutions once dry. Each colour comes in a new transparent 20 ml bottle with a convenient vertical dropper cap that can be opened and closed with one hand. This paint is odorless and environmentally friendly. It can be applied directly from the bottle or thinned with ATOM-20500/20510/20520 ATOM Thinner and Cleaner, or ATOM-20501/20511/20521 ATOM Thinner and Cleaner with Retarder.
