The Panzerkampfwagen V "Panther" was undoubtedly one of the most famous tanks of World War II. It was designed as a direct response to the Soviet T-34 and KV-1 tanks, which outclassed the by-then aging Panzer III and Panzer IV on the Eastern Front in terms of performance and armament. Powered by a 700-horsepower V-12 Maybach engine, it was armed with the highly effective, especially anti-tank, 75 mm KwK 42 high-velocity gun. Thanks to its effective design, which optimized protection-with the adoption of sloped front armor-mobility, speed, and armament, the Panther can be considered one of the best tanks of World War II and was used on all major fronts, from Italy to France to the Eastern Front.
