The Fiat L6/40 light tank was widely used by the Royal Italian Army during World War II. Designed in the late 1930s for advanced reconnaissance and infantry support, it had a crew of two: the driver and the commander, who also operated the gun. Entering service in 1940, it boasted good speed and could be used against light vehicles and lightly protected targets, but was ineffective against more heavily protected armored vehicles. The L6's main armament consisted of a 20 mm Breda 20/65 Mod 1935 cannon mounted in the turret and a coaxial 8 mm Breda 38 machine gun. The L6/40 light tank was used on several fronts, including North Africa, the Balkans, and the Eastern Front.
