[ About the 935/78 "Moby Dick" ]
With a lack of interest in Group 5 rules in the early 1970s, regulations were updated in 1976, introducing the concept of "Sillouhute Formula" cars. In compliance with such new rules, the 935 was designed, using the 930 turbo (borrowed from the 911 series) as a base. Running on a flat-6 engine borrowed from the 911/75 and featuring a highly aerodynamic body and rear wing, the 935 took many wins on the road, and won the maker title for both 1976 and 1977.
With regulation changes happening again in 1978, the 935 was modified into the 935/78-now featuring a long nose and long tail, it was known under the nickname "Moby Dick" due to its outer appearance. Now equipped with a 3211cc flat-6 twin turbo engine, it was able to output a maximum horsepower of 845ps. At the 6 hours of Silverstone Circuit it managed to win first place. As for the 1978 Le Mans, it managed to record the fastest top speed, and put up a good fight against Group 6 cars such as the Renault A442 and 936. However, despite such speed it only managed to finish 8th in the end.
