Metallic Details MDR14468 1/144 Curtiss SC-1 Seahawk Scout Seaplane
The kit consists of highly detailed, high-quality 3D printed resin parts, photo-etched parts, a vacuformed cockpit canopy, and decals to decorate your model. All components are produced using modern manufacturing technologies to ensure accurate geometry, fine surface detail, and realistic scale appearance.
The Curtiss SC-1 Seahawk was an American single-seat shipborne reconnaissance floatplane developed for the United States Navy during World War II. It was designed to replace the earlier Curtiss SOC Seagull and Vought OS2U Kingfisher in the reconnaissance and observation role aboard cruisers and battleships.
The SC-1 was powered by a Wright R-1820 Cyclone radial engine and was normally equipped with a large central float and two small stabilizing floats under the wings. The aircraft could also be operated with conventional wheeled landing gear when based ashore.
The Seahawk entered operational service in 1944 and was used primarily for reconnaissance, artillery spotting, and observation missions in the Pacific theatre. Aircraft were launched from warships by catapult and recovered after landing on the water.
Although the SC-1 arrived relatively late in the war, it represented one of the final generations of catapult-launched reconnaissance floatplanes used by the U.S. Navy. After World War II, aircraft of this type remained in service for a limited period before being replaced by helicopters and more modern reconnaissance systems.
