Tamiya 60795 1/72 Grumman F-14D Tomcat War Bird Collection
This 1/72 scale model kit recreates the Grumman F-14D Tomcat War Bird. The previous 1/48 scale F-14D Tomcat model kit set a new standard for modern aircraft detail. Building on the lessons learned from this kit, the same level of precision is brought to the popular 1/72 scale lineup.
About the Grumman F-14D Tomcat War Bird
The Tomcat enjoyed an active career from the early 1970s until 2006. Originally deployed for fleet defense, its exceptional range in the 1990s allowed it to take on strike missions. Later that decade, the addition of the LANTIRN targeting pod enabled long-range bombing with laser-guided ordnance. The F-14D was the final variant, featuring the F-14B's General Electric F110-GE-400 engines and significant avionics upgrades. Entering service in 1992, it flew missions over Iraq and Afghanistan before retiring from U.S. Navy service in 2006.
Special Features:
- This is a 1/72 scale plastic model assembly kit.
- Variable-sweep wings are fully depicted for an authentic look.
- Distinct parts allow interchangeable wing positions, including sealing plates and air bags, even after assembly.
- Slide-molded canopy, air intake side sections and fuselage panels ensure accurate shapes and surface details.
- Horizontal stabilizers are movable, thanks to poly caps.
- Modelers can choose open or closed fuel probe on the right of the nose, and boarding ladder and step on the fuselage left.
- Includes parts to recreate laser-guided bombs, LANTIRN pod, and air-to-air missiles.
- Comes with two seated crew figures and five U.S. Navy marking options.
** This model kit is supplied in unassembled and unpainted plastic components. Please note that glue, model paints, and other basic modelling tools are required and sold separately.
