HK Models 01F007 1/48 Avro Lancaster B Grand Slam Bomber

The Avro Lancaster was a distinguished British four-engined strategic bomber crafted from red-wing metal during the Second World War. Its maiden flight took place in January 1941, with serial production commencing in the same year. The Lancaster drew its inspiration from the Avro Manchester aircraft and was powered by either four Rolls-Royce Merlin XX forked engines, each delivering 1280 hp (Mk.I), or Bristol Hercules VI engines, boasting 1737 hp each. However, alternative engines were also utilized. Production facilities included Avro, Metropolitan-Vickers, Armstrong Whitworth, Vickers Armstrong, and Victoria Aircraft. By early 1946, a total of 7377 units had been manufactured.

The Lancaster underwent development into four main variants - Mk.I, Mk.II, Mk.III, and Mk.X - all of which bore striking external resemblances. Regarded as the RAF's principal strategic bomber, the Lancaster earned a distinguished reputation for its ease of operation, formidable lifting capacity, and extended service life. Remarkably, there were instances where the bomber successfully completed missions and returned to base despite the failure of one engine. Its operational debut occurred in December 1941, serving throughout the remainder of the war, primarily in strategic bombing roles. Notably, Lancasters from the 617 Bomb Squadron RAF famously executed the hydroelectric dam raids in the Ruhr region in May 1943.

For the Mk.I version, technical specifications include a length of 21.11m, a wingspan of 31.09m, a height of 6.25m, a maximum speed of 456km/h, a maximum range of 4073km, and a maximum ceiling of 6500m. Armament consisted of eight Browning machine guns cal.7.7mm fixed in the forward position, and the aircraft could carry up to 6300kg of bombs or a single Grand Slam bomb (10000kg) following modifications to the bomb bay.
